The RivLife Community Centre (RLCC), based in Cinderella Park, Pietermaritzburg, is a leader in community development. RivLife International is a registered Section 21 non-profit company and is also a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) with the Department of Social Welfare (South Africa).

The centre commenced operations in 2005. It is located in and operates primarily, but not exclusively, in Ward 34 within the Msunduzi Municipality. This includes the areas of Cinderella Park, Madiba, Eastwood, Glenwood, Thembalithe, Thamaville and Panorama Gardens. This community is ravaged by high prevalence rates of HIV/ AIDS, unemployment, poverty, and low levels of literacy. These factors, together with other adverse social circumstances, contribute to the abject poverty conditions that exist in certain sectors of the community. As a result a significant percentage of the people, mainly women and children, are rendered vulnerable to illnesses, abuse and oppression.

In order to address the needs of the community holistically, the RivLife Community Centre provides care through four inextricably linked, crosscutting focus areas. These are:

  • Vulnerable groups
  • Economic empowerment
  • Networking
